What’s The Best Way To Get Rid Of Old Holiday Items?

December is here and Christmas is right around the corner! For many, this is one of the most joyful times of the year. In an effort to have the merriest and brightest holiday season, Texans string up their holiday lights, adorn Christmas trees with glittering ornaments, hang wreaths on their doors, distribute inflatables and projectors throughout their yard, and cook a feast that would rival the spreads you see in magazines. The whole holiday season can feel like a whirlwind. But what do you do when 2022 arrives and you have a bunch of junk and holiday stuff cluttering up your Fort Worth home? Well here at Mad Trash, we’ve got a few tips up our sleeve.

Hire Fort Worth junk haulers– Mad Trash

Unfortunately, municipal junk removal companies like Waste Management have a lot of rules you have to follow in order to get rid of stuff. It also tends to get pretty costly. When you work with Mad Trash– Fort Worth’s preferred junk hauling company, we’ll take whatever you’ve got in whatever form it’s in unless it’s dangerous, or not accepted at any landfills or recycling centers (but that’s mostly just stuff like tires and medical waste– all of your holiday stuff will be a breeze). While other local junk hauling companies have a long list of holiday stuff they won’t take, we’d like to share all of the things we will take.

  • Gift boxes with tape on them
  • Food and organic waste
  • Foil
  • Christmas trees (yes, even the big ones)
  • Christmas tree lights
  • Ribbons, bows, and other decorations
  • Glittery wrapping paper

Of course, this is just a short list of things we’ll take, but we think it’s important to mention because some other local junk haulers won’t. Generally, they won’t remove these things because of the additional work associated with composting, recycling, and sorting trash meant for the landfill. But Mad Trash is willing and happy to go the extra mile to make post-holiday cleaning easier for our customers.

We also prefer that people come to us because we care about the environment and ensure that everything is disposed of properly. But we also know that there are a lot of DIY-ers out there who want to do this themselves so in the holiday spirit, we’re going to tell you how to do so safely. This information will also be great for our customers that want to know more about our junk recycling process.

How to get rid of Christmas lights?

Christmas lights contain glass and copper so it’s important that you dispose of them properly. If they still work, we recommend donating them or selling them off on platforms like the Facebook marketplace. Otherwise, you can always recycle them locally or mail them to the Christmas Lights Source Recycling Program over in Benbrook. You can send them to 4313 Elmwood Drive, Benbrook, TX 76116. This charity is active year-round and donates the proceeds from recycling to Toys For Tots.

How to get rid of Christmas trees?

Whether you’re trying to offload a real or a fake tree, you might run into some unexpected issues. Recycling centers that don’t accept certain materials and haulers that won’t take trees that are too tall– what a hassle! Of course, Mad Trash can easily pick up your tree from your home or the curb.

But there are some other great local resources too! You can transport your vehicle to your city’s nearest drop-off station (you might want to cut it down first though) or talk to your municipal waste management service to compare prices and requirements against other junk haulers. If you’d rather get more use out of your real Christmas tree, you can also chip it and use it for mulch in your garden!
